Your Spiritual Connection: Asking The Right Questions
By Dr. Margaret PaulSeptember 09, 2024
In order to receive answers from your spiritual Guidance, you need to ask the right questions.
"I can't seem to hear my guidance."
"My guidance isn't communicating with me."
"How do I know it's my guidance and not my wounded self speaking in my mind?"
These are common questions I hear from my clients.
There are a number of important choices you need to make in order to hear your guidance and to know that it is your guidance speaking with you.
-
You need to choose to be in a compassionate intent to learn regarding the truth about your false beliefs, and regarding what is loving to you.
-
You need to do whatever else you can to raise your frequency - eating clean and healthy food, eating lightly, being in nature, listening to music - or anything that brings you peace and joy. The higher your frequency, the easier time you will have in hearing, seeing, or feeling your guidance. However, essential to a high frequency is your intent to learn about truth and love.
-
You need to be present in this moment, in your upper right brain, not stuck in your wounded self, your lower left-brain, which focuses on the past and future.
- You need to be asking the right questions.
The Kinds of Questions to Ask
If you want your guidance to give you answers that will be of help to you, then you need to be asking the right questions. The right questions always have to do with truth and loving action toward yourself.
The right questions are not about the future and the outcome of things. Those questions are from the wounded self and about control, which is not what your guidance supports you in. Your guidance is here to love and comfort you, to guide you in your highest good, to bring love, peace, joy, and compassion into your heart, and to teach you the truth.
The right questions look something like this:
- What is the truth about this belief that I have uncovered in Step 3 of Inner Bonding?
- What is the loving action toward my inner child?
- What is in my highest good right now?
- What does my inner child need from me right now to feel safe inside?
- What does my inner child need from me right now to feel safe in this conflict with _______?
- What does my inner child need from me right now to feel loved by me?
- What do you want to tell me?
When you ask these questions about love and truth with a deep and sincere desire to learn, you are communicating to the universe that you really want to know - that you really want to take responsibility for your own feelings and wellbeing. This is what guidance responds to.
About You – Not About Others
Notice that these questions are all about the truth and loving action toward yourself - not about loving others or what is the truth for others. Trying to be loving to others without first being loving to yourself is about control, and your guidance will not answer these questions. When you are being loving to yourself, you will naturally be loving to others, but if you try to be loving to others first, then your inner child will feel abandoned and you will energetically be pulling on others to give you the love that you are not giving to yourself.
The right questions to ask are simple, not complicated - they are always about the truth regarding your beliefs and about the loving action toward yourself. When you are in your loving adult with an intent to learn, you will receive the wisdom and love of your guidance.
Your Feelings Let You Know What Voice You Are Hearing
Your guidance will answer your questions in words, images, feelings, dreams, books, or in conversations with others. You know it is your guidance when it feels right inside you, and when it brings a sense of peace. Guidance never says things that bring anxiety, fear, or depression. Your feelings are your inner guidance that lets you know whether you are hearing your wounded self or your spiritual guidance.
A sense of peace doesn't mean that it will always be easy to do what your guidance suggests, but it will feel right inside. Sometimes guidance encourages us to do something that feels like a stretch, but just because it isn’t easy doesn’t mean it isn’t in your highest good.

Daily Inspiration
True compassion starts with oneself. If you extend compassion to others before giving it to yourself, you are giving from an empty place and your compassion may be manipulative. But if you give it to yourself and then extent it to others, you are giving from a full place within. Then your compassion is truly loving and healing, because you don't need anything back.
